             The occurrence of nights like Kristallnacht {the night of broken glass}, the most horrific night in Germany, when Nazis used kerosene to burn and blow up synagogues all over Germany can not be disputed. Supposedly this terror was a spur of the moment reaction to the shooting of Ernst vom Rath, the third secretary of the German embassy in Paris, by Herschel Gryszpan, a crazed seventeen-year-old refugee living in Paris. But is was, as Joseph Goebbels discovered, the German propaganda minister, planned to the tiniest detail, weeks in advance, by the Nazis (Stadtler, 1994). This is evidence of Nazi hatred toward and willingness to destroy Jews.
             Jews, as Hitler referred to them were subhuman (Stadtler, 1994). They were not permitted, immediately prior to the Holocaust, to go to public schools, and they were forced to wear at least one, if not three or four stars of David around their arms or on their backs or chests, to single them out from the rest of society.
             Was the Holocaust just a myth? There are, in fact, educated, sophisticated supporters of this belief, including some academicians at Princeton, where there is a course about how the Holocaust never existed. It is my opinion that these supporters are in serious denial. The risk inherent in this denial is the chance that such an attempt at mass extinction could transpire again.
             Why am I writing this paper? Is there any reason that I, as well as numerous historians, have researched and put countless hours of arduous work into the subject of the Holocaust? Is there any reason why survivors and witnesses would bring back to life their unbearable experiences in books, interviews, and magazine articles?
