There little Joey lying on his bed in a puddle of tears with his pillow drawn tightly around his ears, so he wouldn't hear his parents yelling and screaming in the next room. Finally the yelling stopped. He went to see what had happened, and that's when he found out that his mother left and wouldn't be returning. Now let me ask you, Joey went through this all his life do you think he will turn into a responsible citizen. Even though it's not impossible, he doesn't have a very good chance. Why you ask? Because home and social environment can severely influence the way a child acts as well as how they grow up.
             A modern day environment affects the choices teens make and the positive and negative actions they take; however they need to realize that they are in control of their life. The conflicts teens are exposed to in their environment can be damaging.
             Divorce has become all to common in our society. Fifty percent (50%) of all marriages will end in a divorce. During this time children are involved in a confusing emotional situation. The child must attempt to understand a series of events, and actually restructure assumptions, dreams, goals, and expectations about them selves and their environment. These teenagers are sometimes uprooted to a new school, city or neighborhood leaving their familiar social ties behind. In these new environments they sometimes assume new household duties, most likely feeling the financial loss and most importantly they receive less support and nurturing from their parents.
             The areas mot commonly discussed are intellectual performance, juvenile delinquency and aggression, social and emotional well being, and finally cognition and perception. Most research to go along with these areas show that boys are more vulnerable than girls to divorce related stress and recover more slowly.
