             Sandra Cisneros writing style in the novel The House on mango Street transcends two genres: poetry and short story. Cisneros poetic style makes the novel easier to read and comprehend than a novel written in a traditional style. She writes in a series of short stories and vignettes combine to describe the life of Esperanza. These structure makes reading move along very quickly and smoothly.
             Cisneros writing have been shaped by her experiences. Growing up in a male dominant society it taught Cisneros to be strong. She is the only female out of six brothers. Her father only wanted her to go to school to find a good husband that will take care of her. Because of her unique background, Cisneros is very different from traditional American authors. Sandra Cisneros took incidents from her life to help her write this novel. The novel The House on Mango Street explores issues that are important to her: feminism, love, oppression, and religion.
