Aboriginal people are the original inhabitants of Australia. They maintain a personal and spiritual link with the traditional lands.
             The people have strong beliefs that they have been part of the land from the beginning, and without the land, they will no longer be able to live, so therefore they feel a responsibility to take care of the land that takes care of them. Their culture has survived for thousands of years in this land. They have utmost respect for it.
             Many believe that they were created by the Ancestors from the land itself. All the stories of the dreamtime explain how Aborigines are descended from their Ancestral Beings. They have sacred sites where the Ancestors passed over stopped at - signs left by the Ancestors. Every rock, tree and waterhole, every animal, bird and insect, the sky above and all it contained were believed to have been created in the Dreamtime. At some indefinite time the creators disappeared, however, many were believed to have remained in secret places in the land - in rivers, caves and other places.
             In other words, the Aborigines believed that their land had been created by spirits who continued to live in the land.
             The bond between the people and the environment has enabled Aboriginal people to survive in Australia for so long, as they cared so much for the land they have been able to live in harmony with it.
