The poems "Anthem for Doomed Youth" and "The Soldier" both are related to war, but however, they both have different feelings towards it, and are written in two different themes. Both poems have very different meanings, "Anthem for Doomed Youth" is conveying how the soldiers "die as cattle" at war, and the grief and suffering felt by their families back home. "The Soldier" is very different from this, as it portrays a more reflective tone, as honour in dying for your country, or in the poem's case, England, and how England has made a soldier into a great man.
             The poem "Anthem for Doomed Youth" is written in a very remorseless tone and the comparison of the soldiers "who die as cattle" give the poem a very negative and pessimistic theme. The poem is constantly compared to a funeral service, "shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells", "the pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall" show how Wilfred Owen sees the war as. The voice in the poem who compares the deaths of soldiers to that of slaughtering cattle draws the conclusion that the going to war is a horrible experience, and that no pride of going to war.
             Compare the dark toned poem of Owen, to the more patriotic, light-hearted work of Brooke. In "The Soldier", Rupert Brooke promotes war, and portrays it as a very courageous and fulfilling act. The poem is also very patriotic to England, as Brooke speaks that in some foreign field, "in that rich earth a richer dust concealed", shows that the soldier believes that because he is English, his dust will be richer than that of any other. The line "A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware" conveys that England is being compared to a mother who raises and nurtures her child. Although this poem is based on war, it portrays an image of "Mother England".
