ecided to blame Serbia for the death of the archduke. This would allow them to declare war on serbia and take over their land. The one problem with this plan was that they were worried that Russia would come to the aid of Serbia and a war between the empires would erupt. So to try to detour Russia from getting involved the Austrian- Hungarian empire decided to get Germany to come in and declare total alliance with them. There thinking was that it would scare Russia from getting involved. So Austria- Hungry with its German partners gave Serbia a ultimatum, either Serbia agreed to the terms presented to them or they go to war with Austia-Hungry. The demands that were presented to serbia were so ludicrous that they had no real choice but to reject them. So on J!
             uly 28 1914, Austria- Hungry declared war on Serbia, and with that the Russians declared war on Austria-Hungary and Germany. Thus the begining of one of the biggest wars in history.
             The begining of the war everyone thought that it would be over by christmas, because most wars in Europe only lasted a couple of months. So the Germans devised a plan that would end the war quickly. The plan was called the Schlieffen plan. It was put together assuming that Germany was going to fight on two fronts. The eastern front which would be against Russia and the western front that would be against France. The reason Germany would be fighting France on the western front was because Russia had made an alliance with France in 1894.
