             In order for peace in the United States we must be able to protect ourselves. The military is in a constant struggle to out-smart and out-perform the enemy. In April 1991 the idea of the Comanche Helicopter was born. Will the Comanche be a success or will it go down in history as a failure? A healthy $3.1 billion dollars went into the production of the helicopter. Is this money a smart investment for the future of the country, or is it another example of wasteful spending. First we should look at exactly what the Army is buying.
             The Comanche is intended to replace the current fleet of AH-1 and OH-58 helicopters in all air cavalry troops and light division attack helicopter battalions and supplement the AH-64 Apache in heavy division attack helicopter battalions.
             The RAH-66 Comanche Stealth Helicopter will be the most sophisticated helicopter ever built. With new stealth technology, it will be invisible to the enemy. It will also outmaneuver any competition. It can reach speeds up to 175 knots and cruise at 165 knots. It is also the only attack helicopter that can fly backwards and sideways at
             70 mph. The Comanche can contribute its maneuverability and speed to its bearingless main rotor, and the 1,432 horsepower power-plant turbo-shafts. This is 7 times the horsepower of the average car and it is only 9,300 pounds empty. Not only can it go faster than most helicopters it is invisible to radar.
             The Comanche incorporates the new stealth technology just like the F-117 Nighthawk, B-2 Spirit, and the F-22 Raptor. This gives it an incredible advantage over the enemy, because they do not know where it is. By doing this, the helicopter shows up no bigger than a large bird.
