Luigi Galvani vs Alessandro Volta Debate

Luigi Galvani Vs Alessandro Volta Debate
The Luigi Galvani vs Alessandro Volta debate was one of the most interesting episodes in the history of science. It began in 1792, when Luigi Galvani published an hypothesis in the existence of "intrinsic animal electricity" which was able to circulate by an arc made by two metals, producing muscular contractions. Upon reading Luigi Galvani's hypothesis, Alessandro Volta decided to begin his own set of related experiments to either prove, or disprove Luigi Galvani's hypothesis.
Alessandro Volta came up with a different interpretation of the results, which conflicted with that of Luigi Galvani. Alessandro Volta believed that the presence of animal tissue was not necessary for the conduction of electricity, synthesising the phrase: "It is the diversity of metal which makes".
In 1800, despite what Luigi Galvani had hypothesised, electricity could be conducted without the presence of animal tissue. Alessandro Volta, determined to prove his hypothesis correct, and after experimenting for several years, invented the first battery. It was constructed of a consecutive stack of metals: silver and zinc, placed in contact with moist cloth soaked in a salt solution.
