he skills they would need to prosper. The founding of the school was a great accomplishment for Washington; teaching others was one way he could express his ideals (Wilkinson 53).
             Consequently, Washington's main idea was to focus on the economical future for black people. At this time in history, not much more could be done. All that Washington was able to do was teach people by improving them though education, agriculture, and industry. Being a great public speaker, he set up many conferences to address his feeling about certain problems, and was able to brainstorm some goals. He believed that blacks could benefit from a vocational education like his, rather than a regular college education. He felt that as long as the people had the skills and continued to work hard, economic prosperity would be inevitable. The only way that black people could be recognized by the whites was to prove their capabilities after gaining a strong economic foundation (Bender 22).
             On the other hand, Booker T. Washington was aware that it was not an easy task to make a name for himself as a black person in the late 1800's. He knew that it was necessary to gain support from white people as well. He set up the programme for Negro movement soon after he began to educate the people. Its approach was to use lots of enthusiasm, faith, and much cooperation to earn the support and interest of white people from both the North and South. He believed that befriending the whites, rather than demanding rights from them, was safer for him and those that supported him. Being on good terms with the white people in power would only bring the black people closer and closer to equality, and improve the current black living conditions (Bender 29).
