"What are the strengths and weaknesses of animism as a life view?"
             Animism is a belief that all things in nature – even lifeless objects – have spirits. An animist tries to please the spirits in order to avoid being harmed by them. They also believe that a spirit may be transferred and that evil spirits may "possess" a person's body. Many people who live in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Islands believe in animism. Animism has its strengths and its weaknesses.
             There are strengths of animism, or of being an animist specifically. Because animists care for all things, they live to protect and to serve as to attain a higher place in heaven. If everyone cared for everything as animists do, our world would not have the problems it has today. Our earth suffers because the people in it do not care that there actions have consequences. They live carelessly and do not respect it. If animism was the religion of the world, our earth would be a more beautiful place as our environment would be better cared for.
             Animism also has its weaknesses. Again, if the religion of our world was animism, no doubt it would be very primitive. Most of our modern technologies, spawn from things that are hurtful to parts of our environment. Animists could not cause things harm in fear of brining misfortune upon themselves. Most of an animists life would be spent living in fear. They believe that every wrong that is done to them is their fault, therefore they would also live in guilt. This would not be a pleasant life-style.
             Belief that everything has a spirit obviously has its good and bad points. Sadly, the bad points outweigh the good ones. With animism, no matter how much you try to please the spirits, there are always going to be bad things that happen. A person should not have to live in fear. God made humans to enjoy life!
