Pork Chop hill

This fell into the top three movies we have watched so far in class. Although it may have lacked simple pleasures such as a well orchestrated sound track, or even the minor detail of color, this movie delivered its message directly to the viewer. There was no need to cut away the fat to see the meat, because the steak was already on the table. Sometimes fancy actors and overdone action scenes distract the audience from a movie, which does not allow a story to be told.
First off this film does an excellent job of shooting a point to the viewers. The storyline is simple, Pork Chop Hill was extremely difficult to take, and the hill had no strategic importance. As shown in the picture, the battle for this hill has arduous and costly. Multiple problems in the lines of communication created a roadblock that prevented the fight from being properly facilitated. The hill itself was no more then a pile of dirt and sediment. There was also no value in possessing the hill except to show our willingness to fight whatever the North Koreans did.
The lack of special effects and color did nothing more then promote the storyline. The absence of eye candy in this film helped to keep the movie simple, and direct. It also did not present the viewer with visuals so spectacularly stunning that he or she was awed into a state of unconsciousness removing them from the spectra of the presentation. The deficiency of color, which for the time was a special effect, out right sucked. Oh well "I will take it anyway I can"(Doc)
Overall I would rate this film a 7 on a theoretical scale of 8. It was a good film for its time, and it accomplished the job it was intended for. I found it to be enjoyable yet satisfying. However the lack of color knocked it down a point on Mike's scale of goodness.
