WHY STUDENT ATHLETES SHOULD NOT PAY OR SHOULD HAVE AN ACTVTY FEE DURING THEIR SEASON?
             Student athletes have always been a big part of college life and at Kentucky State University it has not proven differently. As a student at Kentucky State University you have to pay an activity fee. That fee covers athlete games, yearbook, and other fee activities on campus. This is a good thing, but it hurts the student athletes who have to pay to play the sport that they play.
             Athletes should not be charged for an activity fee when they are in season because they rarely are able to go to the activities. Athletes feel that they should not pay for activities that they do not get to attend due to the stipulations that are included with their sport.
             The purpose of this report is to analyze the results of a survey that questioned student athletes about their feelings on paying an activity fee, interviews with different university officials, interviews with varies coaches on staff, and costs of different universities. The report will evaluate the lack of involvement an athlete has in activities during his/her season and will attempt to identify reasons why the waiver would benefit athletes. In addition, the report will analyze the NCAA and the procedures required to produce this waiver.
             In preparing this report, research was done on what the activity fee included and why the activity fee keeps increasing. Then we sent out survey to all of the athletes on campus. The secretary complied all of the information into a database. Members of our team interviewed coaches on their views on the activity fee and if they felt that athletes should have theirs waived. They will also interview administrators in the Cashiers office, Student Life, and Student Affairs. We also analyzed the number of event athletes attended during their season and during post season.
