The Second Foundation

             For centuries, the human race has been divided by their differences. Men are killed because they look differently or believe different things. Differences between men have caused wars, and created new countries. The United States was founded by men who were discriminated against because of their differences. The Pilgrims uprooted their entire lives and traveled halfway across the world to gain freedom from persecution. Jealousy can be a very powerful feeling when held in the hands of the masses. Because of the confidence placed in the Foundationers by Hari Seldon that they would secede the original Galactic Empire, they original felt invincible. However, as time went on, the threat of the "mythical" Second Foundation, full of mind-readers, and emotion-controllers, the people of the Foundation became increasingly threatened by their lack of psychological power. This led to a jealousy and fear of the Second Foundation, instead of the companionship that Seldon had hoped for. In !

             The First Foundation began as a colony of physical scientists, whose future was planned to create a new and lasting empire that would span the galaxy. There were no psychologists placed in this colony, to insure that they were blind to the Seldon Plan and acted upon instinct and not on knowledge of the future. However, in the 500 years since the founding of that colony, the science of psychology had been developed ever so slightly.
