Do you know about the water problem that the world is having? In the rap song, "New World Water", Mos Def speaks of the problem with water that the world is having. He states the obvious and obscure facts about why we are having these problems. Mainly Mos Def addresses how America is the country that is the major catalyst of this ever-growing problem. Using his urban slang and tricky metaphors he illustrates to the listener what is going on.

Also, the name was given to this song because "New World Water" means that the uses for water are changing. Why we use it, the way we use it, and how much water we use are all shifting hence the name "New World Water"
Mos Def in the beginning of this song he states clearly that people don't think too much of the water problem and how it will come back to get them in the long run. Also in the beginning of the song he states how twisted the world's priorities are. "Cause while these knuckleheads is out here sweatin they goods/ The sun is sitting in the treetops burnin the woods/ and as the flames from the blaze get higher and higher/ they say, 'Don't drink the water! We need it for the fire!"
Towards the middle of the song his chorus gets the point across that everyone drinks the water has been changing. "New York is drinkin it/ Now all of California is drinkin it/ Way up north and down south is drinkin it/ Used to have mine...
