Since I came to The United States, many conversations with people whom I have never met have began with "Where are you from?" and I reply, "I am from Indonesia". After these two sentences, there is a question which most American people ask with a little confusion on their face, which is "Why did you decide to come to Milwaukee?" The first few times I heard people asking me the same question over and over again, I felt that I made a big mistake picking the place where I was going to stay for a couple of years. Moreover, when I traveled to Miami, people I spoke with in stores or bars were surprised that I was from Milwaukee. Most of them said, "Why Milwaukee? What is there besides farms, beer, and snow?" When I heard this statement, I am reminded of a film that I saw called "Kicking and screaming." In this movie, there is a character that is supposed to go to Milwaukee, but he postpones the day when he will arrive by making many excuses. These are several reasons why he doesn't!
             want to live in Milwaukee besides him not liking the Milwaukee. However, the movie's effect was bad enough to give the audience, as well as me, a negative impression of living in Milwaukee.
             Considering how people react when I say I am living in Milwaukee or from the description of the movie, Milwaukee doesn't seem like a city which people love to live in the USA. This fairly common negative view occurs because many people tend to think that Milwaukee has nothing but cold weather and farms. Most people have a desire to live in big cities for their conveniences or warmer temperatures. As opposed to the general view of living in Milwaukee, the city ranked the 34th best city to live in (Places Rated Almanac in 1993), which is only one rank after the city of Miami.
