             The name "hemp" refers to one of the two types of the plant species, Cannabis sativa L. "Cannabis sativa" in Latin means: 'useful(sativa) hemp(cannabis)'. Hemp is the strain of cannabis that has low levels of the psychoactive chemical: THC(delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol), the compound that makes pot so popular. The hemp that is used for industrial purposes is required to have less than 0.3 percent THC content. The psychoactive potency of hemp is so low that it is virtually impossible to produce any psychoactive effect from it. To put it in simpler terms, to attain a "high" from hemp it is required for you to smoke a joint the size of a telephone pole. Also, unlike his sister May Jane, he is high in cannabidiol- an anti-psychoactive compound that inhibits THC. Because of this hemp is sometimes referred to as "anti-marijuana". In fact, if a marijuana plant is within seven and a half miles of a hemp plant, the potency of it will decrease steeply because of cross-pollination.
             Hemp is one of the oldest industries in history, evidence shows that its use goes back as far as ten-thousand years ago- to the beginnings of pottery.
