Painting and Different Types of Paint

             When someone says the word "painting," I think of warm and vivid colors. The smell of mediums and turpentine comes to mind. The kind of painting I am talking about is oil painting. Unlike other paints, oil takes longer to dry. A lot of people don't know a lot about paints. They don't know that there are many different kinds of paints. I speak from experience; that is why I can say this. So in my outline, I will tell you about painting and different paints, such as watercolors, tempera, oils, acrylics, encaustics, and frescos.
             Painting goes back to the days of cave people. Prehistoric people painted on the walls and rocks of their caves. These paintings were done with natural pigment from plants and deposits of minerals. So in some cases, one may agree that drawing and painting are very close. Some artists often use a sketch of some kind before doing the actual painting. Painting is often just drawing with paint. But paintings are much bigger and tend to have more color than drawings. Paintings usually take a lot of time and effort, not to say that drawings don't take time as well. What I mean is that painting must dry at a time before you can go on. See, when you make a mistake in drawing, you can usually erase the mistakes you have made and start fresh. But with Painting, you cannot do this. It would help if you allowed the paint to dry then paint over your mistakes.
             There are three things that makeup paint, pigment, medium, and vehicle. The pigment is what provides us with color. The medium, also known as a binder, holds the pigments together once it is mixed together. The vehicle is what allows the pigments to spread. Most of the time, paint is applied to a canvas or cumbersome paper. Most papers are too thin to hold paint. So we must use paper such as watercolor paper, which is very sturdy.
