Odysseus can be seen as the complete man.
             Odysseus was stuck on the island of Calypso for years until the goddess Athena asked Zeus to free him. Granting her wish, Calypso bitterly let him free. On his way away from her island Odysseus is tossed around in storms until the treacherous God of the sea, Poseidon, destroys his craft. Odysseus then drifts to the land of the Phaeacians, where he is welcomed into the kingdom by King Alcinous.
             After a few days Odysseus reluctantly shows off his physical domination by playing in the athletic games. Odysseus hears a singer singing of the battle of Troy and weeps. In seeing this King Alcinous asks him who he is. Odysseus tells them his name and the story of his life. He tells them of his attack and plundering of Troy and how on his way home he was blown off course to the land of the Lotus-Eaters and to the island of Cyclopes. On the island curiosity and greed led his men to enter the cave of the Cyclops Polyphemus.
             Trapped in the cave, Odysseus watches Cyclops kill his men around him. Odysseus decides he must act quickly and uses his wit to defeat the Cyclops and free his men. He blinds Cyclops and then sneaks out of the cave hiding under the animals that Cyclops lets out. This act is a perfect example of how Odysseus uses his mind to defeat the circumstances prese
