cookies

As a former Girl Scout, say yes I'll take one box to the Girl Scout cookie sellers. Frank Wilson, who wrote, "saying 'no' to cookies" (Jan 28), said girl scout cookie selling is a " ploy for the purpose of obtaining money." Girl scouts work hard at trying to sell these cookies. It takes a lot of time and effort to attempt to sell their cookies and nothing is more discouraging than going door to door knocking trying to sell a box when five out of five say no.
Part of the money they obtain is used to buy supplies for their Girl Scout troop. Supplies they can use to make crafts for the elderly in nursing homes, people in hospitals or the mentally challenged. The money is also used to send girls to summer camp. Some girls cannot afford the full cost of camp so selling cookies help pay their way. Girl scout camp helps better the young women's outlook on life as well as the world around them. Camp is also a safe and fun way to spend the summer.
Now as an adult I buy from every Girl Scout that comes to my door. Buying one box from every girl that knocks makes me feel better as well as the girl. It does not matter how many boxes a person buys, just one box helps the girls.
Girl scouting is an honest organization that has been all around the United States for many years. Former girl scouts, such as myself, know what it is like to try to sell a hundred boxes so buy cookies form the girls.
