Hanson: The True Boy Band

             Because of the many musical groups existing in the world today, the media frequently advertises any group of male singers as a boy band. However, upon taking a closer look at these stereotyped groups, one will discover that among the manufactured dance quintets ruling the pop world today, none measure up to the raw talent of Hanson--the true boy band.
             The American Heritage Dictionary clearly states that a band is "a group of musicians." Furthermore, a musician is defined as one who plays an instrument. Backstreet Boys, we have a problem. While Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys have performed one song each, both live and recorded, such a minor thing as playing instruments for the full length of their albums or concerts is still a mind-boggling idea for the Backstreet Boys. Lucky for them, teenage girls have displayed an obvious passion for almost any pop star--as long as he has a good stylist.
             N Sync's expertise in the instrumental world can be summed up in one word: nonexistent. On all of their albums, both national and international, the members of N Sync obviously believe the risk of their manicures is too big to take in strumming a guitar or playing a piano. They have yet to play instruments, either recorded or live.
             Hanson on the otherhand, are the McDonald's where the Backstreet Boys and company are "Bob's Burger Bonanza." Isaac, the oldest, plays both electric and acoustic guitar; Taylor plays the harmonica, bongos, keyboards, tambourine and piano, while Zac contributes his own talent on the drums. J. Saunders argues "the three brothers, Isaac, Taylor, and Zachary have an indisputable talent befitting musicians many years older, especially when it comes to live performances." In addition, Hanson has played all of the music on their CDs and during their concert tours. Do not look for dancing at any coming Hanson performances.
