To Kill a mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird Essay Per.8
In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the novel shows a conspicuous sign of courage. The characters show this courage in many different ways, but the idea of courage continually remains the same throughout the story. What the novel says about courage is that people show it in different ways because everyone has their own ideas and realizations of true, unjustified, courage.
The first character that displays a significant amount of courage is Jeremy Atticus Finch, nicknamed Jem. He repeatedly went onto the Radley vicinity despite the constant fear of repercussions. His friend Dill, frequently challenged Jem's courage by daring him to trespass on the Radley property. The ultimate goal was to get Boo Radley out of the house. Jem was scared, yet bravely and reluctantly, he agreed to the dare. Jem even said " I hope you've got it through your head that he'll kill us each and everyone, Dill Harris!"
Another character that also depicts courage is Jean Louise Finch, nicknamed Scout. She made herself a heroine when she stood up to her first grade teacher in defense of Walter Cunningham. She tries to explain to Miss Caroline (her Teacher) in a delicate way, that Walter's family is poor. However she gets in trouble for interfering. Miss Caroline says " Jean Louise I've had about enough of you this morning. You are starting off on the wrong foot my dear. Hold out your hand."
The character that portrays the most courage in the novel is Atticus Finch. Atticus shows courage in the highest degree by defending Tom Robinson, a black man, in a courtroom filled with racial prejudices. He even waged a very convincing battle against the plaintiffs, but in the end his courage did not avail against the prejudice of the court. Though he did not win the trial, he gained a large amount of respect and food the next day.
