Descartes

Descartes believed there are two basic kinds of things in the world, a belief that is known as dualism. Descartes believes that the mind and body are two separate distinct substances. Even though the two substances are different, they both are use together to function well. How can a person move any part of his body without using his mind? A mind needs a body to live in and to learn things. The mind can not function well if it is not in a body and a body can't function well without a mind. Descartes describe how his mind can sense pain when his body gets hurts.
What is the mind? According to Descartes the mind is a thinking thing. Descartes knows he is living cause he is thinking and therefore he has a mind. Without a mind he will not be living. How long can he be thinking, he asks himself. If he will stop thinking would he ceased to exist?
According to Descartes, the mind exists by being consciousness. The mind also controls the movement in your body. It is a mystery how the mind knows how things function. There were many things Descartes did not understand about how the mind works. He wonders if we are awake or are we dreaming. Which one is where we really exist, at both times our mind is working properly? He only knows he exist because he is thinking.
