The story is about a man that is severely mental and who wants to take revenge on his friend. The plot is simple. Montresor lures his friend into the tunnels where he buries him alive by walling him into a cubbyhole.
             The story is told in the first person and from the point of view of Montresor himself. The setting of the story occurs when Montresor tells us he wants to take revenge on Fortunato because "he ventured upon insult". I also learn that he intends to go unpunished for this act of vengeance.
             Perhaps the theme in the story is the least important feature because it was a senseless crime. The story is one of horror and revenge. The ending of the story is filled with suspense. What will happen after Fortunato is chained to the wall? Will Montresor have second thoughts about what he is doing or will he construct the wall? Will he change his mind? When the last brick is in place. We know that Forunato's life is over. This story is probably one of many horrifying stories that happen back in the middle ages.
