thought of Castro being a great leader to the belief that Castro was an incompetent man whose government was destined for collapse (Britannica). The United States feared that Cuba was just the stepping stone for communism in the western society.
             As Castro was trying to extend his revolution beyond Cuba, opposition began developing in the United States. Citizens were watching Castro open his gates of revolution to the communist and Cuba became a monolithic dictatorship. This unrest opened the doors for the United States to become an active partner in the plot against Castro. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) started relationships with anti-Castro groups in Cuba and Florida calling themselves the Movement of Revolutionary Recovery (Johnson, 72).
             Relations with the Soviet Union were now strained because the United States was upset with them because they helped Castro introduce communism into Cuba. The cold fact was that the United States fought off communism half the way around the world, but they couldn't even defend a country that is ninety miles from their own shores.
             In March of 1960, President Eisenhower gave the CIA permission to quietly organize Cuban exiles into an armed force. By late spring, military plans were being made.
