The first year of college consists of a lot of learning
coping and compromise. The aspects that deal with English
155 is part of this learning process. Nobody can predict
the future, but I can guarantee that the students who
graduate from 155 will have to write at least one more major
essay. 155 is developed to help prepare the student for the
upcoming years, there are going to be plenty of instances
where the teachings of 155 will come in use.
To have a class such as 155 is very beneficial for the
students who have good grammar, but are not able to focus it
into one main idea. I believe there are many gifted
students who are able to write an A paper in 20 minutes. So
what do we do, to better suit the needs of these more gifted
students. To help accelerate the learning process for a
student of such a high caliber in English, should be
required to take the EPT test to see if they are able to
pass out of the course. The test to see if we are placed
in college English or need to take a preparatory class
should indicate whether or not we pass out of English 155.
We should be pushing the students to do better. To
challenge a gifted mind would mean great things when
accomplished. What good would it do to have a student
become bored in 155 when he could be writing fascinating
scholarly works in a type of honors program.
Each individual is different, and for this reason it is
not possible to say that each student has to take 155. The
simple fact that the course is required is fine, I'm sure
the Cal State system does not want to graduate anyone that
does not have the competency to pass freshman English, hence
the EPT. This course helped me by recognizing my weak
points and challenging my strong points. The course teaches
us skills that will better prepare us for the future. I
