Title of Lesson: The long a (a-e) sound
Content Knowledge: The students will be taught about the phonic sound of the long a (a-e). The students will be read a story focusing on the sounds of a (a-e).
Rationale: The student will need to know the long a (a-e) sound to continue to learn to read more complex words.

Introduction of Book Jane and Jake Bake a Cake.

2.Introduction of Author and text to be read.
3.Throughout the story have the students sound out the words cake and bake.
The students will also be brainstorming about other a (a-e) words later throughout the reading lesson.
4. Teach the skill of the sound of a (a-e). Use examples from the story as well as brainstorming with the students on new words that include the a (a-e) in them. Examples: face, place, race, Jane, Jake, late...
5. Have the students play a pick up game that involves Popsicle sticks that have a (a-e) words on them, as the student picks one up this student has to go to the board, write their word and share a sentence involving it with the class. Then they return to their seat.
