dreams

             Every one has dreams for something or someone wonderful to happen to them in life. Sadly, there are a few that see their dreams as transparent and too far-fetched to be conceivable. Some dreams eat those people up inside so much that they cannot see the things that they can be happy for in the present. Depression is a severe thing and I witnessed it up close.
             I always wanted a summer love. I never understood why it must feel good to have one, I just knew that it did. My first summer love wasn't really love at all, but in the end deemed just as satisfying.
             "You know what's really bawm?" Kandise yawned as she plopped in her bed, wearing a long, light-blue nightgown with a teddy bear fading on the front.
             "A rain storm on a hot, summer night."
             I thought about that, certainly not out of context from which she was implying. Rain on a hot, summer night? Interesting thought, even if she didn't add whom the hot, stormy night would be bawm with. Rolling my eyes at her, I knew she wanted some sort of response. Looking back down at my doodle paper, I sighed, "yeah."
             It's about 80 degrees in our little, dim dorm room and the constant drone of Kandise's fan breeds fast-moving warm air directly on her head. When I go home on the weekend, I now find it hard to fall asleep without hearing it. I turn the lights out and lie flat on top of my blanket. The misty rain falls heavy, spitting on the erected black lapels of the window. Rumbling of far-off thunder is heard. I am in the middle of a stormy, hot summer night, thinking things that may never come to be, about a being who may never share the same dreams or bed with me.
             "... Nothin'..." What a way to fall a sleep. Hot and daydreaming in my cold and lonely bed. But not Kandise. She isn't thinking about what's careening through my mind and into my belly, my feelings swirling around liked
