Death in the work place is an alarming thought that many Americans have on their minds everyday. It is a growing problem in our country and we are seeing more and more of it occurring nation wide. All of these murders which keep happening is a major wake up call that something has to be done. Americans can not just sit back and wait until a disgruntled employee comes to work with an AK-47 and decides he/she is judge, jury, and executioner.
             Murder in the work place does not only consist of angry employees that are upset they were fired. It accounts for all and every possible scenario that could happen while you are at your place of work. "Homicide was the third leading cause of occupational death from 1980 to 1985, accounting for 13 percent of all work place deaths". "Strangers made 16 percent of the threats in the work place; customers or clients made 36 percent; and current or former employees accounted for 43 percent". (Write Stuff pg. 1). These statistics are upsetting to most people because most Americans work too hard to have this type of possible disaster on their minds.
             Protection in the work place is an area that needs our undivided attention. If you are lucky and work in a big city building they most likely employ an armed guard or an elevator person which may not be much, but it does minimize your being alone. After the incident at Columbine High School in Littleton Colorado there was an alarming message sent to every American that you are not safe at work. Since the massacre, there have been changes brought about to all work places starting with the installation of metal detectors and the hiring of armed guards. Armed guards and metal detectors alone can not stop murder. When a person has made up his/her mind to kill another human being, it is next to impossible to stop or prevent this tragedy from occurring.
