another. Cunning variations in color tell us important information.
In ancient times, debates were made of whether color was an attribute of light or of the object. The answer or result of this debate, is that it is both. Light, and the object work to together as a team. White light is made of the combination of many colors, however the colors within the white light cannot be produced with out the object, which reflects some of these colors and absorbs the rest. Yet color is more than light, and the object, it is the creation of the eye and the mind. This theory was created by Newton himself. (Sobel, 49)
The visible light of the electromagnetic spectrum was revealed by the prism. Beyond the visible spectrum, there is invisible light. (Sobel, 19) The Electromagnetic Spectrum is in descending order of wavelength. It contains, or consists of radio waves, infrared rays, visible light, ultraviolet rays, X-rays, gamma rays, and cosmic rays. (Levin, 51) Electromagnetic rays consist of frequencies as well. They can exist at virtually any frequency. However, they are classified by their frequency. The wavelengths of the infra region, or radio waves, and infrared rays, are said to demonstrated longer wavelengths. This was discovered and demonstrated in 1800 by William Herschel. The region of the ultraviolet rays, X-rays, gamma rays, and cosmic rays, consist of short wave lengths. The human eye sees the visible rays of the electromagnetic spectrum. The visible rays are ROY G BIV; these letters stand for different colors. R is red, O is orange, Y is yellow, G is green, B is !
blue, I is indigo, and V is violet. (Bova, 140-142) These are the colors that often appear in a rainbow, in this order. By the red side of the visible rays wavelengths are longer, and as they approach the violet side of the visible ray's wavelengths begin to shorten into shorter wavelengths. (Williamson and Cummins, 92-94)
