             From your sophomore year through your senior year of high school one word is repeated over and over again by your guidance counselors and teachers; its that pesky word that begins with a c, college. For some the college decision process may be simple, and to others complicated. It is time to wake up from your pleasant dreams to the reality of what you want to do for the rest of your life.
             The college process begins when you are a child, just saying what you are going to be when you grow up. Some people will be that, and others will decide to be something else. In tenth grade is when a person should start really thinking about what they want to be, and researching it.
             The next step that many take now is looking for colleges on the Internet. You may think that only a few colleges will have your major, but after researching you’ll see many colleges are out there that you never knew of. Once you find potential colleges you should request information, most colleges will send you a packet promptly, others may wait until your senior year of high school. It is always a good idea to keep all of the information together.
             About halfway through your junior year you should start to narrow down the pile of colleges down to five or six. Visiting colleges is quite important during the college search process. When visiting a college you could discover it isn’t what you thought it would be, or is a perfect match for what you want. A good way to keep track of what college is your top choice is to keep a comparison and comment chart.
             The summer isn’t only just for visiting colleges; it’s a good time to start on the dreaded college applications. Having a rough draft is easier than starting from scratch in October.
