Hello!! My name is Tommy Lockett. Times were hard when I was growing up. I
lived in the back woods of Alabama. My father died when I was 5 yrs. old. Before my
father died he told me that I was gonna make it in basketball he said he saw it in me. On
that day I told myself that I was gonna make my family proud of me. I said that I was
When I was 13 I started hanging with the wrong crowd. I was selling drugs, doing
drugs, and I wasn't practicing safe sex. I was on the verge of quitting school. When I was
15 yrs old I got arrested for robbing a gas station. While I was sitting in my jail cell it was
like my dad was sitting right there talking to me. I heard him say "You remember what I
told you" "Its not to late". After I came out of jail I said enough is enough. It was my
junior year in high school and I went out for the team.
It was just amazing at what I could do with a basketball. I did everything so
naturally. Some of the stuff I did I don't know how I did it. I could jump so high that it
was just amazing. So I got myself straight. I gave my life to god when I was in 11th
grade. Everything I did I gave in the glory. After playing 2 yrs. of varsity basketball. I was
receiving calls from the best colleges in the United States. On signing day I chose to sign
with University of North Carolina. After I played 3 yrs. of College ball. I was drafted in
the NBA draft. I was the #2 pick overall I was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks. I signed an
68 million dollar contract. I got married to a beautiful women and we have 2 kids. After
all of that I can say that my family is proud of me. I just wish my dad was here to see me.
