Imagine a place where the way people look and the way other's perceive the looks of others had no impact on day-to-day life, that place is definitely not Earth. The way that a person looks in any society on Earth is ultimately a dominate factor in his or hers life. The issue of third person perception can easily present problems from mean thoughts to even murder in some extreme cases. Most people try to overlook this unavoidable concern as being human, but really they are just forgetting the fact that humans can and do change. The changes to accomplish the world where appearances are meaningless will never really happen based on the unchanged history of mankind on the issue itself. The troubled people that are labeled can really do nothing to solve this aliment of epidemic proportions and basically have to try to deal with the problems presented to them. The act of women and homosexuals being marked based solely on appearance often leads to a road of unwanted stereotypes, violence, and harsh prejudice.
             Women are facing so many marked tendencies now based on appearance that every choice they make marks them in one-way or another. When women wake in the morning, the choice of clothing, make-up, even hairstyle can easily impact the way other people view them for the whole day. Tannen wrote, in an article about women being marked, "decisions about hair, clothing, makeup, and accessories, and each decision carried meaning" saying women had tough decisions to make everyday (420). Not all women care too much about these decisions, but the choices those women make still mark them.
             The hairstyle that a woman has is one of the first features that others notice. To make other people mark her as caring what she looks like, a woman has to keep her hair beautiful. Not having her hair in top shape can even "disqualify her for many positions, and will subtly diminish her as a person" (Tannen 421). Going alon...
