             Dr. Armstrong is having a nightmare in which he is at the operating table, and he must kill the patient. The patient at first appears to be Emily Brent, then Marston. Suddenly Armstrong is woken by Rogers, and he goes to find that Mrs. Rogers has died in her sleep of unknown causes--perhaps of sleeping pills, although none can be found in evidence.
             Meanwhile, the guests are up, hoping to catch sight of the regular morning boat, which they hope to take back to the mainland. Vera, Lombard, and Blore go up to the summit of the island to watch for it, but it doesn't seem to be coming.
             After breakfast, the doctor announces Mrs. Rogers' death to the group. They are alarmed, and give Rogers their consolations even as he continues to wait on them.
