Italian

My annual summer trips to Italy seem to get better every year. I can see the Couplella de Bruneleschi in Florence a millions of times, and still be amazed by its ancient Byzantine architecture, which is just one of many reasons why it is such an irreplaceable landmark of Italy. It fascinates me how a country can be so ancient in its surroundings (streets and countryside) yet so modern in its people, who walk the very same cobblestone "vie" that have been tread by the regal feet of Antony and Cleopatra. Italy is a second home for me. Therefore, as one who leaves their home often becomes, I often long to return to Italy as I reminisce about my latest excursion.
I am the first generation in my family to be born on American soil. As I have grown over the years I have learned to appreciate my diversity and I have learned many things about my culture that allow me to contribute to the melting pot of Cherry Hill East High School. I have taken it upon myself to make sure that the Italian culture courses through my veins as part of a determined effort to carry our Italian heritage through many more American generations of the Di Sanzo family, which is one of the reasons I have applied for dual-citizenship.
I am proud to call myself bicultural. I have the rare and glorious opportunity of being a part of two worlds, from which I have taken the best attributes of each and molded myself into who I am today. Not only has dealing with two cultures taught me to be open-minded, but it has also sculpted me into a cosmopolitan person. When I am in school I am a completely different person from who I am on the coast of Italy with my cousins or treading barefoot on the tiles of my Cherry Hill house.
