WHY I WANT TO BE A BAND OFFICER
I've seen the faces; I've heard the voices of band members who have almost completely given up on band. Every year the number of faces grow larger. It's depressing for someone who loves music to sit and watch their band become one of a lower caliber, due partly to the meager efforts of others.
I want to be an officer at Sandalwood because I still believe that there is hope for us to stay on top for at least one more year. People have problems dealing with change. This was evident upon the arrival of Mr. Chicerelli at Sandalwood. Upper classmen at the time yearned for the years when Mr. Mitchell again. They praised his teaching methods and way of command while giving little attention to the new director. Those words of nostalgia influenced the younger generations into thinking that Mr. Chicerelli is not as good band director than he actually is. People think that Sandalwood is not going to be up to par next year. They think that we will suck. Well I don't think so. The remedy to this self-fulfilling prophecy is to start with the younger classes and to work your way to the top. The minds and outlooks of the new freshmen class haven't yet been polluted by the negative messages that are so common around the band room today. Negative ness leads to an un-successful band.!
They are the key to future success at Sandalwood. Older students will soon be gone taking some of their reverse feelings with them giving us a new slate in which to work with. As an officer I will be a tool used to mold the new generation of Sandalwood Band members. I will be making the future of Sandalwood band. I, and others will be the catalysts' in which will spark the reverse domino effect and help to bring back the prestige so familiar to Sandalwood High School Band.
