When exploring the ideologies of nationalism, different interesting facts concerning state and nation are revealed. Both state and nation are independently operating entities. The United States is the perfect example because it contains both states and is a nation. The United States however is also a tricky subject due to the fact that it lacks some of the other forms of nationalism that other nations may practice, such as a national language.
             It is true; the existence of nationalism does not require a national language, however many believe it to be useful in displaying their nationalism. For nationalism as an ideology to exist, it does not need to have the existence of a state, one distance culture, one religion, one government or one uniformed political identity. Even though these things are not necessary for nationalism to exist, they are extremely helpful, and as noted in Hassner’s essay, they are also the founding forms for communism, which is an extreme nationalistic point of view.
             While nothing is extremely necessary in order for an individual to have pride and be a nationalist, certain aspects of the nation must be uniform in order to form a nationalistic society.
             The authors all havew adifferent perspecive as to why nationalism has been revived in trhe late 20th century. All of the authors agree that natioalism was an idea that was first introduced in the 1800’s and is now being revived. The reason for this is largely unknown, however the various intellectueal essayist have a number of different theories.
             Benidict Anderson gives two separate reasons for the nationalist movement in his essay, The New World Disorder. In this essay , he sites the discontent for the economy as the first reason. He feels as though because the citizens of a country are unhappy with what is going on, they turn to natioalsim to answer their discontent.
