This book is about a black man that becomes a victim of racism. It starts out with a black man named Jefferson and he is walking down the street. Two guys offer him a ride. He gets in, and right away they ask him if he ahs any cash on him. Jefferson didn't have any so they told him they were going to go to the liquor store. The two men were drunk so when they went to the store they asked the clerk if they could get a bottle, he asked them if they had the money to pay for it, (being drunk) they didn't have enough. The clerk said that they couldn't get it. They tried to get him just to give it to them but he wasn't going to just give it to them. Then one of them started to walk around the corner and the clerk told him to back up but he did not stop. Then the clerk started to shoot them but the other guy had a gun so everybody died except for Jefferson. He didn't know what to do so he just took a drink and started walking out. He got sentenced to the electric chair be!
