Breakdancing History

"B-Boys go down!" (Frenando 123) This quote, said by Kool DJ Herc, is the quote that almost literally, started breakdancing into the main stream as we know it. The life of breakdancing: how it started, where it's at now, and where it possibly may go, is purely one of urban origin.
Breakdancing was originally a way for gangs to settle conflicts. (Fluent-C) When breakdancing first started it was not called breakdancing, nor was it dancing. It was actually a self-taught version of Brazilian Kung-Fu, called Capuwada. (Fluent-C) In the beginning it was done without music and was very violent. (Fluent-C) The gangs used this dance-like Kung-Fu to fight each other, or "battle" as the gangs would say. (Fluent-C)
The actual word breakdance comes from the phrase "B-Boy," coined by Kool DJ Herc in 1969, which means break-boy. (Fluent-C)A B-Boy was usually a former gang member or a bystander of a battle, who took and used it himself. (Fluent-C) He called them break-boys because they would only dance during the "break" section of the song. (Fernando 123) The break section of a song, is the part with pure dancing beats, such as a drum solo. (Fernando 124) This inspired Kool Herc to create the Break-beat, a continuos loop of break sections, which brought breakdancers into the main stream. (Fernando 124) Many B-Boys started dancing daily on street corners and began to do their own improvised gymnastic moves. (Breakdancing 13) Most breakdancing moves consist of head-spins, walks, a form of supporting all of one's body weight on one's hands, while "walking" on one's hands in a small circle, and moves in which the B-Boy or B-Girl rotate their legs in various ways while they are in certain posit!
Today, breakdancing has become very popular and has ignited a flame in the hearts of many. Many people breakdance professionally in today's world. ("
