When someone conducts an experiment, and not just scientists but any logical
curious human who wants to test a new thoery, product or innovation, they will in most
cases test their ideas on a small amount of people to make sure things are okay. Doing
preliminary tests allow the experimenter and the people he introduces his ideas to feel
more comfortable and safe with what they are about to be involved with. Scientists
practice this common experimenting phase when they test a few lab rats at a time with
certain chemicals to see how they react, rather then moving right into apes, or even
humans. A little boy will practice this same technique when he mixes up a concoxion in
the kitchen and has his little brother taste it before he and his friends take the plunge. The
process seems logical, right? Test what you believe in small incriments and make sure it is
completely safe before jeprodizing anyone or anything else. Somehow, this theory that is
well know even to small children, slipped the minds of all scientists recklessly
experimenting with the unknown and using the human race as their lab of giuni pigs. The
idea that is currentlly being experimented with is Genetic Modification, or GM.
Without much prior knowledge (and for most consumers, not any at all), GM food
and numerous other household products containg GM ingredients have made it onto our
supermarket shelves and into our homes. The food modified in this way could be, and
have already proved to be in some cases, problematic. The products can not only effect
the human and pet consumers, but also the organisms and living and non living
environments around us. The long term effects of the GM organisms have only been
brushed upon the surface and the short term effects haven't been dug much deeper into.
The lack of hard evidence on whether or not GM is safe leaves those involved (ie basically
