             March 20, 1941 was the deadline for entering the ghetto. The Edict 44/91, established a closed Jewish district south of the Vistula River, residency in the walled ghetto was compulsory. All of the Jews from Krakow and surrounding areas were forced from their homes and required to crowd into an area of only sixteen square blocks. It was at this time that most Jews went into hiding.
