Affirmative Action

             "It was a wise man who said that there is no greater inequality than the equal treatment of the unequal" (Felix Frankfurter, judicial opinion 1949). This means that nothing is more unjust, then justifying the unjustifiable. How can something be equal when the government gives rewards, and opportunities to people just because the color of their skin, their age, or their sex. According to The American Heritage Dictionary "affirmative action", is "Action taken to provide equal opportunity, as in admissions or employment, for minority groups and women (American Heritage Dictionary, 84). But isn't it obvious that you cannot counteract discrimination with more discrimination. It is just like violence. You can't end violence with more violence; it's a never-ending cycle. It is programs like affirmative action, which keep segregation alive in this country.
             Affirmative Action is a government program, which is designed to help integrate minorities into American society, but it in fact does the opposite. There are places where they in fact demand segregation for "racial harmony" they can go too far though, like throwing out Shakespeare from curriculums because it isn't "politically correct", but teaching black history at the same school. Mohammed Ali once said that "his" people made this country. And that is just the type of thing I am talking about "his" people. His people are not African Americans, they're Americans, they are not "Asian Americans", they're Americans. Those are the minorities and that is what separates us as a country. If we could all just be Americans it would solve a lot of problems, but the government has to label minorities if they are to be given these special opportunities and thus labeling creating a segregation between whites and minorities. These programs which help minorities get government "hand!
