The Renaissance period of time was a time of great change. It was also called the time of enlightenment, because so many things were discovered in that period of time. Many inventors like Leonard Deviance and theologians like Dr. luther helped change some of the ways we saw the world. In Hamlet you can see some of these changes and beliefs. Hamlet has a vary religious attitude in some parts that reflect the beliefs of the time.
             The first belief that you can see in the play is the ghost of Hamlets father. The tie with religion is if you believed in a ghost then you believe in a life after death and that's what most religions have to do with. With the ghost showing up in the beginning of the play tells you that the people back then believed in some form of religion right in the beginning the play. To find out what religion the play is centered around you have to look to the ghost. The ghost says that it was killed in a time when it was sinning and so it can not go to heaven. The religion that most reflects this beliefs in that time would be Catholicism. You could also know that by the fact that they were the only major religion back then. There was another religion starting up called Lutheranism. Lutheranism began when Martin Luther put the ninety-five thesis on the Catholic churches door.
             The play also shows the people of that time believed in prayer. You can tell this by the fact that there are a lot of scenes that involve prayer to a god. The people of that time believed that if you were killed at a time you were involved in a sinful act you would not go to heaven, you will not go to hell ether. You will go to a place of nothingness called purgatory. The same belief is still held today in the Catholic religion. That is also why Hamlet can not kill Claudius when he has the chance. Claudius is praying and if he is to die he will go either to heaven or purgatory and Hamlet wants him to go to hell.
