Imaging and Photographic Technology

             Imaging and Photographic Technology
This year was my first year at RIT. I am a student in the Imaging and Photographic Technology program and to be honest, this major has challenged me throughout the year. I have learned a lot about photography, and I have enjoyed my share of photographic hatred. Since I have not had any photographic training before coming to school, learning the ins and outs of photography was challenging. However, after the first few assignments, I gradually caught on to the processes of exposing and developing film and presenting final assignments.
The pictures that are being shown were taken for a class assignment during the winter. The scenes are statues and structures of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester. It is the only Cathedral in the city and has been an establishment since the 18 hundreds.
For this class presentation, I scanned the negatives into Photoshop in the lab on the 3rd floor. Once in the program I fixed the pictures by adjusting levels, brightness, as well as contrast. Now, some people consider it cheating to use the computer to enhance or manipulate pictures, but my reasons stood on the argument that I did not have enough money to buy supplies for the darkroom to print these pictures. Also, I have not done a lot of work with computers, so I grasp the opportunity to try something new. However, I soon realized that working on the computers in the lab is just as hard and expensive as making prints in the darkroom.
Overall, the experience I've had in the program has been good. I enjoyed learning about the technical aspects of photography, and look forward to the knowledge I will learn in my upcoming classes.
