Life experiences provide a person with maturation and a brand new outlook on the world. In the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, the main character learns many new things about herself. She endures her difficult life as a child only to find that when she is older she will still be faced with many difficult situations. Through experiences with Helen Burns at Lowood School, Mr. Edward Rochester at Thornfield, and St. John Rivers at Moors End she eventually finds her place in society and the world. Jane learns to survive and persevere in this imperfect world which shows her maturation over a period of time.
             Helen Burns helps Jane to learn tolerance, forgiveness, and peace while at Lowood School. The teachers often punish Helen for reading books. She continues to read them and calmly accepts her punishment because she knows she is going against the rules. Jane displays passion and strong emotion when she gets angry with people who treat her and her friend unjustly. Although mature and moral, Helen cannot survive in an imperfect world. Helen teaches Jane that she must act calmly and rationally to achieve her end goals.
             Jane's life at Thornfield with Mr. Rochester teaches her about her future social status. Jane shows a complete understanding of her status in life until she falls madly in love with her master, Edward Rochester. She finds that underneath his cold exterior he has human weaknesses and deserves both love and forgiveness. He says, "You master me (p.150)." He learns to accept her view of morality and G-d. In this gloomy, suspenseful, and romantic setting Jane learns so much about her future in the world. After she runs away from Rochester, a family consisting of a brother and his two sisters chooses to take in Jane which also has an intense effect on Jane's future.
