America as a whole has definitely come face to face with some pretty drastic changes since
             President Bush took office on January 20, 2001. The question is however, what is in store for the future of America, and how much change can American's cope with at one time?
             Obviously some American's can't cope with the changes as well as others. Just this past week a former federal employee of the IRS was walking around the white house with firearms. Despite these threats, not all American's are in disagreement with Bush or his policies. About half of the United States voting population likes Bush. As far as Bush's first month in office, many agree, including Ms. Desmarais, that "Bush has stuck to his plan of action."
             Bush's number one priority thus far has been education reform. This new education reform is very similar to the education plan he made when he was governor of Texas; requiring every student to pass a final test at the end of each grade in order for them to advance to the next grade level. Along with the actual testing that is to be done, the plan also includes funding which will be based solely on how well each school does on their standardized tests. As Ms. Desmarais put it, "The lower the grades in a particular school, the more funding they receive, and the higher the grades, the less funding." But shouldn't we ask President Bush what will become of the school's who get less and less money because of their poor test scores?
             Another controversial issue in the white house right now is Bush's $1.6 trillion tax cut. On Thursday February 9, Bush sent the plan to Congress saying, "We needed tax relief yesterday." Democratic leaders were not in agreement with this plan and immediately declared war on it. If this is so, the President may not be able to carry out all of his promises to the nation after all.
