n Gabriel who signs up to fight against his fathers wishes. This and other events such as the brutal Colonel Tavington killing one of Martins sons before his eyes drives Martin to fight for the protection of his family and the freedom of his country.
             I chose the more initial obvious Patriot. I believe that Benjamin Martin was The Patriot in this movie for many reasons. Like I said before he is the protagonist, Martin is who the story evolves around. Gabriel and Thomas Martin his two oldest sons were key to the movie and were motivations for Benjamin. But at the same time if they were The Patriots then the movie would have ended when one or both of them had died. The movie is about Benjamin Martin's ups and downs. Also the questions that are to be answered in this paper almost point to Mel Gibson's character. I can see how a person might pick Gabriel Martin as the Patriot, but the explanation isn't as clear and easy to back up in my opinion. The Patriots life style at the films opening was laid back. Widowed, farmer with seven children. He had a maids to help around the house. On the Martin farm it seemed as if there were slaves to work in the fields and to do household duties as well.
