Leadership

             Leadership – according to Webster's Dictionary – is the office or position of a leader, the quality of a leader. A leader is a person who guides or directs. Does that explain what a leader is?
             It is my belief that anyone can be a leader, that being a leader is not just in a title. A person who takes the initiative to see that something is done, a wrong made right, an effort attempted – that is a leader. Leaders are also people who may not know the way to get something accomplished, but do know the right people that can get it done.
             Our president is considered a leader. For him to be a leader of our nation, he must surround himself with people who have experience and knowledge. These people, in turn surround themselves with more people who have knowledge and experience – and this goes on – all the way down to the very lowest worker that works with him. Because each layer or groups of people rely on others, in my opinion, they are all leaders.
             How is a leader defined? Is it the person on the playing field or the person in the stands supporting the players? Many people would say the players are the leaders, but if there were no fans, what would the players be playing for? There is always that one person in the stands who gets the crowd all pumped up. This in turn gets the players pumped up. There is also that one person on the team who may not play, but is always there to support the team and give inspiring comments to the other players.
             Is a leader the captain of the football team or is the leader the head of the band. Both have very important jobs, getting people together, showing them the way. The captain of the football team makes sure the other players know what they are supposed to do. The leader of the band makes sure that the band members know the song.
