After reading this story, I had a terrible time trying to come up with a song to relate to this story. But after some thinking, I chose to use- 'If I Could' by Regina Bell. In the beginning of the story, it talks of a wife who has a husband that is "durable, receptive, gentle and a child that is a golden three"(pg.33). The wife gets to the point that the sight of them made her so mad and sick she did not want to see them ever again. Her husband, who is very attuned to her, understood things of this nature. So he asked her, what did she want him to do, and after she explained to him, he told her that he would be grateful and that it would be a pleasure. In the first stanza of the song (If I Could) She says if I could, "she protect you from the sadness in your eyes, Give you courage in the world of compromise." I took this as (in the story) her husband trying to do whatever he could to take the sadness away. In my opinion, his form of compromise was trying to take some of the load off her by picking up on some of her duties as a housewife. As time went on and her sadness became dejection, her husband tried harder and harder to mend her gloom by doing whatever he could. For example he rearranged his life by getting up hours early, did the shopping, cooked the breakfast, took his son to school, went to work, picked his son up from school, came home and made supper, washed the dishes, and got the child to bed. He managed everything and was doing all that he could to bring some sunlight to her sorrow. As in the song Regina explains that if she could, she would shield your innocence from time, try to change the world I brought you to. In comparison of this story: A Sorrowful Woman and song: If I could, they both were trying to protect/shield the one they loved. In the story the husband actually did what he thought was right to ease the depression that his wife was going through. In the
