golden rule

"Treat others how you want to be treated" is one of the most recognized phrases known as the golden rule. It is found in the scriptures of nearly every religion. It is often regarded as the most direct and general principle of ethics. An assumption can be made that morals derive from the golden rule approach. If everyone one would take the golden rule into consideration it would better the society as a whole. People need to put them selves in the shoes of others to gain more knowledge of what it's like on the opposing side. Once the person can see first hand what it's like to be on the "other" side they will realize their mistakes and look at things in a different light. For example, if a mother and daughter were to switch roles for a day the daughter would become conscious of all the responsibilities that her mother has to take on, and after seeing this directly she would now have more respect for her and try to help her out more. The mother would realize all the pressure that her daughter has to deal with at school and so on and would try to help her daughter rather then add more of a burden on her life.
Even thought it is not possible for everyone to switch roles for a day, it is important that we can visualize what it would be like to do so. People need be more considerate. We are told that it is right to be moral. By assessing the Golden Rule it would give people more morals. Morality is important for society as a whole, as it makes life livable.
