             As Henry ruled the country as he wished, Henry could have carried on the fight with the Pope just as he wanted, but he decided to call the parliament and ask for its help. He didn't have to take the parliaments advice if it didn't suit him, but he wanted to feel the support of the people behind him. Most English men agreed with their king, and the Parliament gave its support as they were unhappy about the wealth of Priests and were not happy having a foreigner, running the country. Although Henry did not realize this, he was taking a very dangerous step by allowing the parliament to taste the power of ruling and one of the first steps on parliaments road to victory over the crown.
             The parliament, which sat from 1529 to 1536, helped the king break with the pope and reform the Church in England. First of all Henry refused to pay money to the pope and then made himself head of the Church. Parliament passed a number of laws which took away many of the priests' privileges, including the ban of payments from English bishops to Rome and the end of the independence of the English clergy.
